What does it mean for my Experian credit file to be unlocked?

  • If your file is unlocked, banks or lenders may access it if you, or someone who claims to be you, applies for a loan or credit in your name.
  • Any company with a legal right, including new or existing creditors wishing to review your file or extend you credit, may access your file if it's unlocked.
